Furikake Seasoning

Furikake is a versatile everyday seasoning you can use on rice, noodles, snacks, and sides. It’s packed with umami flavor and nutrition, thanks to seaweed and toasted sesame seeds. Make a small batch at home and store in a shaker.

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Makes 6 servings

Ingredients:

1/2 cup white sesame seeds

6 (about 3 grams each) nori snack sheets

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon sugar

Instructions:

  1. Sauté sesame seeds on low heat for about 6-7 minutes, stirring constantly until they become fragrant and lightly toasted. Transfer to a small bowl.

  2. With kitchen shears, cut the nori sheets into tiny strips, about 1-2 cm long.

  3. Add the seaweed, salt, and sugar to the toasted sesame seeds and mix well.

  4. Store mixture in an airtight container. Makes about ⅔ cup.

Notes:

Sprinkle as desired over popcorn, avocado toast, rice, vegetables, salads, or dips.
